This year, our nation celebrates the centenary of Macario Pineda (1912-1950), a writer significant to Philippine letters, one whose broad understanding of Filipino culture and masterful renditions of local color continue to present a way of seeing and being in this age of globalization.

Mark Angeles returns with his new book of poems THREESOME

Mark Angeles, author of self-published books Patikim and Emotero, comes back with another thought-provoking title: Threesome.

His new poetry book leads us deeper into the lives of commonplace lovers. But nothing is mundane. And no word is suppressed. In this book, someone thinks he is an umbrella, another thinks his heart is filled with birds. Lovers crash to their death, finds their partner sleeping like a dead dog or being swallowed by the bathroom sink.

Threesome is a ménage à trois of the author’s poems in English, Filipino, and translations of his choice notorious love poems by Pablo Neruda, Constantine P. Cavafy, and Francesca Beard among others. This book also essays his thoughts on translation and our languages.

For inquiries on where to get a copy of Angeles’s books, send an email to akosimakoy@gmail.com.

Ang Autobiografia ng Ibang Lady Gaga - Book Launching ni Jack Alvarez

Meet the Other Lady Gaga
Saturday, 12th May 2012, 6.00 pm at Conspiracy Bar

Jack Alvarez’ debut book, Ang Autobiografia ng Ibang Lady Gaga,
it binds together 91 scandalous but honest testimonies and revelations, a non-linear short narratives,
an anthology of dagli into a book with the heft of a novella,
through the presence of one daring, ambitious, unforgettable character: The Other Lady Gaga.

+++
Naiangat ni Jack Alvarez ang dagli sa isang sining ng paglikha ng malaking daigdig mula sa maliit at partikular na karanasan… Isang makabuluhang kontribusyon ito sa panitikan ng bansa. - Reuel Aguila, Palanca Hall of Famer.

CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS, GRAPHIC/VISUAL ARTISTS & FILIPINOS HERE AND ABROAD

As the old saying goes, ‘Promises are made to be broken.’

With almost 100 days after Benigno ‘Simeon’ Aquino III had been inaugurated as the 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines, nothing significant and meaningful changes were being put forward by this administration who promised to lead the country in his so-called ‘tuwid na daan’ (upright road).

Just few days after PNoy sworn into power last July 1, 2010, various issues that directly affect the Filipino people popped-up. Landlessness, joblessness, extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearance`s, high prices, budget cuts, incompetence of law enforcement, intensification of hunger and poverty and many more issues worsen that actually disproved his claims for genuine social transformation.

To date also, prosecution of PNoy’s predecessor, Pampanga’s Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, remains elusive for his administration is doing nothing to make Arroyo and her cohorts culpable of their gross human rights violations and corruption cases.

With this, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-National Capital Region (BAYAN-NCR) and the Imprison Arroyo Movement (IAM) call on the attention of photographers, graphic/visual/performance artists here and abroad to submit photos and/or artworks, illustrations and sketches depicting real images of PNoy’s broken promises in the guise of his ‘daang matuwid’ slogan.

Submitted images will be gathered in a photo compilation which will be dubbed as ‘IMAHE ng NASYON: Mga Larawan at Dibuho sa Tuwid na Daan.’ We aim to gather as many works as possible that we will be launching in the coming days and will be staged on grass-root level exhibits and galleries on various communities, schools and workplaces.

All images that will be submitted will also be published over the internet and will be included in a photo mosaic of PNoy that will be unveiled during the peasant mobilization on October 21, 2010. Uploaded entries must have the name of the artist/photographer and a brief caption that will discuss your pieces. You may send them through the following:

E-mail Address:            bayan_ncr@yahoo.com | iam.pilipinas@gmail.com
Facebook Account:      Bayan-NCR Chapter | IAM Pilipinas | Kathy Yamzon

Together, let us not allow PNoy’s promises during the election period to remain broken and empty. ###
